Ready for the Compendium Winter Multi-Series ?
It's time to put your new year's resolutions into practice and take up the challenge of doing a Triathlon or a Duathlon in 2009. With the new-year in full swing, but there is still time to get training for the upcoming Winter Multisport Series.

The series is not only for serious athletes but includes a rookie event to give first-timers and non training competitors a taste of the action. The rookie event will encourage more friends and families to get down to Suncoast and enjoy a safe day of family fun in an exciting venue.

There are 3 different events for the family to choose from on the day. The short Rookie Triathlon is open to anyone over 8yrs old, from couch potatoes to seasoned athletes. This event consists of a 200m swim, 5km Cycle and a final 1.25km run. The Pro/Am Triathlon has a minimum age of 15yrs old and consists of a 600m swim, 20km cycle and a 5km run. Then for the not so good swimmers, the final event is the Duathlon, which is a 5km run, 20km cycle and then a 2.5km run.

The Series consists of 4 different dates at Suncoast Casino and Entertainment World. The first two events in the series are the shorter sprint distance races, while the last two dates are the longer Olympic Distance races. The 2 Olympic Distance events, consist of double the usual Sprint distance up for the Pro/Am Triathlon and Duathlon. These longer events will have a prize purse of over R20 000, attracting the cream of SA's triathletes.

The Compendium Winter Multi Series will also raise funds for Business Against Crime. "Crime is destroying our society," says Rowan. "Anything we can do to provide a stable environment so that business can flourish is good for investors, the city and its citizens".

The Series is owned and managed by B-Active Sports, one of the leading Sports management companies in South Africa. B-Active Sports has managed to double the current Prize money with the help of Compendium, Santam, Zurich and Hollard Insurance groups. The Prize purse for the 4 event series stands at R90 000 for 2009 and is sure to attract the top SA triathletes as well as new athletes to Durban's idyllic beachfront.

The Compendium Winter Multi-Series dates for 2009 are the 29th March, 12th July, 30th August with the Final event on the 27th of September. The second two events will be the Olympic distance races, where competitors in the Triathlon will have to complete a 1.5km swim, 40km Cycle and a 10km run, and in the duathlon the competitors will do a 10km run, 40km cycle and a final 5km run. We have provisionally secured road closure from the Durban Metro Police for all the events in 2009, with Enforce security providing marshals and security out on the bike and run routes.

To all prospective athletes.... we look forward to seeing you on the start line!
