aQuellé Sugar Rush Run & Ride report
Saturday saw a great turnout for the inaugural aQuelle Sugar Rush Run & Ride.

This event was the sporting component of the Ballito Prawn and Jazz festival, which took place at Collisheen estate from the 2nd to the 4th July.

Over 100 competitors lined up to do the grueling run and ride event, which took place at Holla Trails in Ballito. The new race routes were marked by Tyrone White, which included some of the best single track routes Holla trails has to offer.

There was either a 5km or 10km run option, taking competitors into the cane fields of the nearby Collisheen estate. For the MTB ride, competitors could choose between a moderate 13km event or a technical 27km distance, which took them all the way to Shaka’s Kraal and back.

The event started with the mist creeping over the low hills of Holla Trails waiting for the sun to rise up and wipe them away. The competitors took to the challenging routes eager to test their winter training against the rolling hills of KZN.

Winners of the events were:

. 5km run & 13km Ride – James Damont and Tamryn Sweet

. 5km Run & 27km MTB – Tyrone White ( no lady entry)

. 10km Run & 13km Ride – Keith Higginson & Robyn Schlebush

. 10km Run & 27km Ride – Rhys Couzyn & Dale Blake
